# Omnex JSON-RPC API Method

**Omnex Layer** implements the standard [**Ethereum JSON-RPC API**](https://ethereum.org/developers/docs/apis/json-rpc/), providing developers with an experience nearly identical to building directly on Ethereum. However, a few RPC methods differ slightly from Ethereum’s native implementation; these differences are outlined in this section.

Below is an overview of how each Ethereum JSON-RPC method behaves on **Omnex Layer**, using three status indicators for clarity:

**• Fully compatible:** Request and response semantics are identical to Ethereum.\
• **Semantically different:** The method is implemented, but its return value or behavior differs (for example, no Proof-of-Work or uncle blocks). See the *Note* column for further details.\
• **Not supported:** The method is currently unavailable (typically related to wallet or filter functionality). Replace, stub, or omit these calls until future support is announced.

Returns the current protocol version.

Returns sync status of the node.

* `startingBlock`: `QUANTITY` `- The block at which the import started (will only be reset, after the sync reached his head)`
* `currentBlock`: `QUANTITY` `- The current block, same as eth_blockNumber`
* `highestBlock`: `QUANTITY` `- The estimated highest block`

#### eth\_coinbase <a href="#eth-coinbase" id="eth-coinbase"></a>

Returns the client coinbase address.

Since the Coinbase-related features are not yet developed, this API currently returns a null value as mock data.

Returns whether the client is mining.

Since the L2 sequencer does not perform mining, it will always return false.

Returns the hashrate of the mining operation.

Since the L2 sequencer does not perform mining, it will always return 0x0.

Since the L2 node does not have a wallet function, it will return an empty array.
